Frauke Elichaoff (Middlesex University)
'Women with Autism - What do we Know? The Unknown Side of an Invisible Condition'

Abstract: This talk will explore some of the recent developments in research on autism spectrum conditions in women and girls. Most research in the past has focused on the prevalence of autism in males, with a generally accepted ratio of 4:1 male/female, but this is being questioned now. Is autism no longer a ‘male’ condition? How does it present in females? This presentation will review some of the existing literature, as well as consider some of the ‘real life’ implications.

Biography: Frauke Elichaoff is an Associate Lecturer in Psychology at Middlesex University, teaching mainly counselling skills and lifespan modules. She is also part-time PhD student, and her research explores the experiences of older adults with autism through a pluralistic qualitative approach. Frauke is the mother of a son with autism, but her research sparked her interest in the burgeoning literature on women and girls with autism.
